Hands-On Coding
At University Elementary School, students from all grade levels experienced an exciting and interactive coding assembly that combined hands-on learning with cutting-edge technology. During the event, students were introduced to the world of virtual reality (VR) game creation and then had the opportunity to test their creations firsthand. They were also able to program robots, bringing their own code to life as the robots moved and completed tasks.
The assembly was further enriched by the presence of students and faculty from their sister school, Sonoma State University. Together, they explored various coding applications and engaged the young learners during their daily “Code Hour,” where kids practiced coding on tablets and discussed tech-related topics.
One of the highlights came from Sarah Chivers, a parent, who shared, “The best part for me was hearing my two girls get excited about the idea of working in computer science!” Inspired by this enthusiasm, the school is now considering a partnership with Girls Who Code to create an after-school coding club to foster a deeper interest in technology and coding among students.
Through such collaborative and innovative events, University Elementary is helping to ignite a passion for STEM and empower the next generation of future technology leaders.
