Solar Futures Youth Education Program
We believe in the power of education and opportunity to create lasting change. That’s why we’re excited to highlight GRID’s Solar Futures Youth Education Program, an initiative that provides high school and college students from underinvested neighborhoods and tribal communities with hands-on learning in clean energy technologies. These students-future leaders in the clean energy economy-are gaining the skills and knowledge needed to navigate and thrive in renewable energy careers.
Through classroom learning and real-world solar installation projects, the Solar Futures Program introduces students to the growing renewable energy sector. From resume building and mock interviews to on-the-job training and hands-on experience, the program prepares students to confidently enter the workforce or continue their education. Graduates emerge with practical, job-ready skills and a deep understanding of the importance of sustainable energy.
The program doesn’t just teach technology – it empowers young people to take action on climate change, promotes environmental stewardship, and provides a pathway to in-demand careers. In 2024, GRID will partner with 29 schools in California, Colorado, Washington D.C., and tribal nations, with a goal of serving more than 850 students. Through this initiative, students will gain access to opportunities that could shape their future and the future of our planet.
In addition to Solar Futures, GRID’s SolarCorps Fellowship Program focuses on equity, inclusion, and diversity in the solar industry. Through hands-on experience and mentorship in a supportive, inclusive environment, fellows from diverse backgrounds-including Black, Indigenous, people of color, women, LGBTQIA+, and justice-involved-get the tools they need to launch their careers in renewable energy. Over 10 years, 88% of fellows have secured jobs upon graduation.
Together, we are building a better future, one solar panel at a time.
